In May 1775, during the Boston Campaign of the American War of Independence, the British armed schooner HMS Diana was lost during the Battle of Chelsea Creek. She ran aground following which a boarding party, led by Captain Asa Lawrence, removed the cannons from the ship before burning her in Boston Harbour, as portrayed here.
HMS Diana is important in that this was the first naval capture of the war. The location of the wreck remained a mystery for well over two centuries until Merlindown discovered it, together with other colonial vessels being used in the attack. This image is a digital scan covering the entire wreck site.
